Emotion does not say ‘I’. You said it yourself: you are beside yourself. Emotion is not o the order of the ego but of the event. It is very difficult to grasp an event, but I do not believe that this grasp implies the first person. It would be better to use the third person like Maurice Blanchot when he says that there is more intensity in the sentence ‘he suffers’ than ‘I suffer.’
